It’s funny because both Democrats and Republicans each kept two bills from passing

I’m not familiar with the site, so for one gloriously hideous moment I thought it was real. And honestly I wouldn’t have been all that surprised if it were.

Yeah. I love how they made a huge deal about passing some sort of laws but they went out of their way to block any measure they didn’t come up with.
If they really wanted to do something they’d go after those illegally selling or purchasing guns. Most gun violence is done with guns illegally obtained. Listening to npr a couple years back they were talking about gun violence in a city and the host asked what laws did they pass to get such a big drop in gun violence. The guy said “they just started enforcing the laws they already had and went after those selling illegally.”

I disagree that they were acquired illegally. Those guns still have to come from somewhere. They don’t magically fall from the sky. Having a gun is huge responsibility and letting it get stolen (left unlocked) should have repercussion before able to acquire another.
Gun manufactured>dealer>buyer
A) buyer commits crime
b) Buyer sell/has stolen gun by person committing a crime

There was another report with a guy buying a dozen pistols, who had Illinois plates during their handgun ban.

In this particular city (I didn’t remember which), they started going after the gun stores selling illegally and those selling on the black market. It became much harder for the criminals (this particular interview was on gangs) to get guns, and as a result gun violence took a nose dive.
People think of mass shootings and assault style weapons when they think of gun violence but the vast majority of it is from handguns obtained illegally.
As far as the “gunshow loophole”, it’s not a loophole. When the Brady law was written, it specifically addressed private sellers. If it were a loophole it would have been a work around. However, if a gun transfers ownership, there should be a background check regardless of who is selling. Another thing about gun shows is there is rarely private sellers. Some even require any sellers to have FFLs to have a booth/table. I went to one recently for the first time and every single seller had a FLL and required background checks. I know this isn’t always the case but it’s at least a little ray of sunshine.
Moral of the story: it shouldn't be as easy as it is to get something as dangerous as a gun. If it inconveniences law abiding citizens but stops criminals or the mentally unwell I'm all for it.
